Mould Remediation

Dark patches spreading across a wall, a musty smell that won't shift, black spots creeping along the sealant — mould rarely goes away on its own, and painting over it only hides it.

Remove the Mould. Find the Cause. Keep It Away.

Our Mould Remediation service does two jobs at once. We remove existing growth using professional biocidal products and protective treatments — and we diagnose the moisture problem that created it, using moisture meters and a room-by-room damp assessment.

Whether it’s condensation mould behind a wardrobe, black growth around a shower, or damp spreading across a bedroom’s external wall, you get a clean surface, a treated area that resists regrowth, and a written report explaining exactly why it happened and what needs to change.

Mould Remediation FAQ

What is the difference between mould cleaning and mould remediation?
+
Wiping mould off a wall with bleach removes the visible staining but not the underlying problem. The spores and root structures remain in the surface, allowing mould to return within weeks. Mould remediation is a controlled process that identifies the source of moisture, treats the affected area with professional biocidal products, applies an anti-microbial coating to help prevent regrowth, and HEPA-vacuums surrounding surfaces to reduce airborne spores.
Do you find out why the mould appeared?
+
Yes. Every job begins with a thorough survey. We use moisture meters and thermal readings to determine whether the mould is caused by condensation, penetrating damp, rising damp, or a plumbing leak. We also assess ventilation, extractor fans, and cold bridges around windows and external walls. You’ll receive a written report explaining the cause and the steps needed to prevent the mould from returning.
Do you carry out damp-proofing or building repairs?
+
No. We specialise in mould removal and remediation rather than building repairs. We remove mould safely, treat affected surfaces, and identify the underlying cause, but structural repairs such as fixing leaks, installing damp-proof courses, replacing sealants, or improving ventilation should be carried out by a qualified contractor. Our report provides the information they need.
How long does mould remediation take?
+
The time required depends on the size and severity of the affected area. A single bathroom or bedroom wall can often be completed within half a day, while mould affecting several rooms usually takes a full day. Larger or heavily contaminated properties may require a team or multiple visits, particularly if surfaces need drying time between treatments. We confirm the estimated duration after the initial survey.
How much does mould removal cost in Croydon?
+
Pricing depends on the size of the affected area, the number of rooms, the surface type, and the extent of the mould growth. Send us a few photos together with the room dimensions and we’ll provide a clear fixed quotation. If you proceed with the work, the survey fee is included in the final price.
Is black mould dangerous?
+
Damp and mould can contribute to respiratory problems, allergic reactions, and the worsening of asthma, particularly in children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. That’s why it’s important to deal with the underlying cause instead of simply painting over the affected area. If anyone in your household is experiencing symptoms they believe are linked to damp or mould, they should seek medical advice from their GP.
Are the products you use safe for children and pets?
+
Yes. We use professional biocidal and anti-microbial products designed specifically for mould remediation. During treatment we ventilate the area, contain the workspace, and advise you how long to keep children and pets away—typically for a few hours. Once the treatment has dried and the room has been aired, it is safe to use as normal.
Will the black stains disappear completely?
+
In most cases, yes. Staining on non-porous surfaces such as tiles, grout, glass, uPVC, and sound painted walls usually disappears completely. However, on porous or damaged materials—including old silicone, plasterboard, chipboard, or water-damaged plaster—some staining may be permanent. We remove the active mould, treat the surface to inhibit regrowth, and advise if any materials should be replaced or redecorated.
Do I need to move out during the work?
+
Usually not. We isolate the affected area while we work, allowing you to remain in the rest of the property. We’ll simply ask you to keep children and pets away from the treated room until the products have fully dried and the area has been ventilated.

Professional Mould Remediation in Croydon and London

Mould is one of the most common problems in London housing, and one of the most misunderstood. It isn’t caused by dirt — it’s caused by moisture. Warm, damp air meets a cold surface, condensation forms, and within days spores that are already present in every home find the conditions they need to grow. That’s why scrubbing a wall with bleach never works for long: the stain lifts, the moisture stays, and the mould returns to the same spot within a few weeks.

At Eco-Fresh, our mould remediation service in Croydon treats both halves of the problem. Trained, fully vetted technicians remove the growth with professional biocidal products and apply an anti-microbial treatment that resists regrowth, while HEPA vacuuming prevents spores from being redistributed around the property during the work. Alongside the clean, we carry out a moisture survey — meter readings, ventilation checks, and an assessment of cold surfaces — and hand you a written report identifying the cause. If the fix is a building repair rather than a clean, we say so plainly and describe exactly what’s needed.

When do you need mould remediation?

Book a survey if you can see black or green spotting on walls, ceilings, sealant, or window reveals; if there’s a persistent musty smell you can’t trace; if condensation runs down your windows most mornings; if clothes, shoes, or wallpaper in a particular room feel damp; or if mould keeps returning to the same patch after you’ve cleaned it. Landlords and letting agents book us when tenants report damp, and homeowners often book after a leak has been repaired, after a wet winter, or before selling or letting a property. Acting early matters — the longer growth is left, the deeper it penetrates plaster, sealant, and timber, and the more likely it is that materials will need replacing rather than treating.
